City of Culture
The UK City of Culture is a title given every 4 years to a UK city or local area. Blackpool is into the second round, in the running against 8 other cities. If successful, Blackpool would receive £10m to host a year-long celebration of arts and culture designed for local people, while boosting the visitor economy, creating new jobs and strengthening the town’s creative identity for years to come.
Thanks to funding from Blackpool Council and Creative Blackpool, throughout July, TramShed have been delivering a new project which explored what local culture means to our members, what they want Blackpool's cultural future to look like and how they can play an active role in a future UK City of Culture programme. Using TramShed’s inclusive approach, we have delivered a 5-week programme of inclusive theatre activities, specifically designed to delve into Blackpool’s history and community, whilst being fully accessible and delivered in a safe and stimulating environment. The project included spoken word, arts and crafts, CSL, poetry writing and more, culminating in an inclusive celebration event, to showcase findings, skills achieved and stories shared. Becoming a further community contribution to Blackpool's City of Culture story.
Creative Sign Language
Creative Sign Language is a beautiful, accessible art form delivered by our trained artistic team. Using British Sign Language, we adapt the signs creatively, to interpret popular music through movement. The workshops are relaxed, fully accessible and delivered in a safe and encouraging environment. No previous experience of British Sign Language or movement is needed to take part.
Memories Through Music
TramShed’s exciting Memories through Music project works with individuals suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s. By using music taken from their era and carefully selected TramShed activities, we deliver a session which often sparks many conversational elements in which memories from years gone by are discussed and explored.
Muli Mutya, Lancashire!
This community focused outreach enables the participants to explore alternative countries, cultures and wherever possible create cross-cultural links. Within a MML workshop we aim to include alternative music, rhythm, languages, percussion, physical theatre and drama styles to capture whatever country the client is focusing on.
Hate Crime
At TramShed everyone is welcome and everyone is valued. We encourage workshop members to not only accept differences, but celebrate them. Our Hate Crime awareness outreach enables the participants to explore subject matter surrounding LGBTQ, disability, race, religion, culture and community cohesion.
