Volunteers Week 2026

In this one off blog, we hear more about the journey of Youth Volunteer, Member and Gold Arts Participant - Alice Tarpey.

I started TramShed in around 2022 when it was the 15th Anniversary of TramShed. I joined because my sister started attending the online workshops during Covid and I was really interested by them and always listened from behind the camera. I started volunteering at TramShed in 2023 as I always looked up to the volunteers and wanted to help in workshops and especially on stage.

The thing I like the best about TramShed is how everyone is a big family and is really supportive about everything. One thing I want to improve on is my confidence outside of TramShed as my confidence has massively improved inside TramShed and I am willing to do basically anything there. Even since starting college my confidence outside TramShed has got a lot better.

I wanted to do the Gold Arts Award as I have seen some projects from previous students and I found them really interesting. I have also already done my Bronze Arts Award with another organisation and I really enjoyed that.

Currently, as I am getting to the completion of my Gold Arts, I am about to perform my new arts skill and confident arts skill piece, which I am doing dance and CSL to. I had a workshop with Eve and Coz which was a massive help. Another part of the Gold Arts I am currently doing is the leadership project, for this I am hopefully going to do a mini social media series interviewing TramShed members, APT and volunteers to find out what they think of TramShed and the current show.

My dreams and aspirations for the future are to go to university to study technical theatre and stage management to work backstage in theatre. Specifically I want to work on touring musicals. If this doesn't work out or I get bored after a while, I later want to go into teaching in SEND schools or nurseries.
